Connecting with mIRC

This page information for getting connected with mIRC, if you're not using mIRC then visit ConnectingHelp for help with your specific IRC client.

Quick start

The quickest way to connect after installing mIRC is to simply click irc://irc.shadowfire.org/. If you're unable to connect (perhaps you have no international bandwidth or are firewalled) you should consult the Shadowfire website for more information.

Permanent solution

The above method is just a quick fix, if you plan on becoming a long-term member of the Shadowfire community, you're probably going to want to add Shadowfire to mIRC's connection settings.

  1. First of all, make sure you're running the latest version of mIRC.
  1. On first running mIRC you should see a window that looks like the one below.
First you need to select a Shadowfire server; in your mIRC window click the item highlighted here in red.
  1. Now you need to find "Shadowfire" in the list and select the "Random server" (highlighted here in red) and press "Select" (highlighted here in green.) If you managed to find "Shadowfire" without a problem then skip step 4.
(HINT: Pressing the button labelled "Sort" might make it easier to find "Shadowfire".)

  1. If you could not find the "Shadowfire" group in step 3, click the "Add" button highlighted in blue in step 3, fill in the information fields to look the same as in the image below.
Once you've filled them in, click the button labelled "Add" and return to step 3 to select the server.

  1. Fill in the information highlighted here in red and click the "Connect" button highlighted in green.
(HINT: Make sure that the selected server mentions Shadowfire, if not then make sure you completed step 3 correctly.)
  1. If you've followed all the steps correctly, you should have just connected to Shadowfire, congratulations.
